Sun Prairie Cockroach Control

Cockroaches. Yup, we hate these guys. In fact, cockroaches are so hated, they are one of the most likely insects to be mislabeled. They are nothing new and have been around since before T-Rex was wandering around with his mini-arms. We shouldn’t be surprised when they figure out how to live in our home or business, but we don’t have to let them stay. Sun Prairie cockroach control should be designed to get rid of roaches quickly to minimize the spread of the diseases they like to spread in their wake.

What Do Cockroaches Like To Eat?

Cockroaches are omnivores which means they eat both plants and animals. They prefer starches, sweets, and meats however they will eat pretty much anything including certain types of glue! Cockroaches can survive over a month without food and about 2 weeks without water! This may make you question the logic of including food reduction in our Sun Prairie roach control plan, but it is necessary. It is much easier to reduce the population when it isn’t getting a chance to rebuild, recover and expand.

Unwelcome Roaches

Oriental Cockroaches

These larger cockroaches can grow to be about 1 inch long. These six-legged pests are a shiny brown to black color and both the males and females have wings. Fortunately for us, they cannot fly.

These roaches are also known as “Waterbugs” since they are typically found around dark places with a lot of moisture. Typically, these critters are found in damp basements, bathrooms, and under and around sink fixtures. Sun Prairie cockroach control for Oriental roaches will need to include exclusion work and moisture reduction.

German Cockroaches

These roaches range in size between ½ – ⅔ inches long. They are tan in color and have black vertical markings on their pronotum (the part behind their nasty little head). This is another type of roach with wings that cannot fly. Fun fact: if it looks like a German roach and can fly, it is an Asian cockroach.

Oriental cockroaches don’t like the cold weather we have here in Sun Prairie. This drives them inside any place that has warmth like homes, restaurants, food processing facilities, and even hospitals! Sun Prairie roach control for German cockroaches will include focused efforts on food source reduction as well as heat and humidity reductions.

Brown Banded Cockroaches

These roaches are no stranger to multi-housing units but will show their unwelcome faces in single-family homes and businesses alike. At about ½ inch long, they are pros at infiltrating the tiniest cracks. Roaches tend to congregate in tight quarters for comfort and safety, but they have another element drawing them together. Female, brown-banded cockroaches emit a sex pheromone that will draw the males in toward her. Brown banded roaches get their name from a brown band on their abdomen. Sun Prairie cockroach control for Brown Banded roaches must include consistent monitoring of populations for both location and indicators of population size.
