Eden Prairie Blossoms

With spring in the air and Bryant Lake Park getting busier, there’s no question that warmer temperatures are on the horizon. We know they are going to rise and fall here and there this time of year, but the sure trend is warmer. Not only do we as Eden Prairie residents become more active as temperatures warm up, so do Eden Prairie pests from mice, to ants, to wasps and hornets!

Winter Winners

Just because pests are more dormant and less visible during the colder months, doesn’t mean they have magically disappeared and won’t return this spring. Some pests go into a state called diapause which allows them to withstand a greater range of low temperatures, some as low as -94º F! Since our homes have plenty of wall void space and large slabs of concrete that will provide protection to over-wintering pests, the chances of them experiencing any temperatures even close to lethal levels is pretty slim. They just wait for the spring to come along (much like we do) and come out in full force without missing a beat from last year.

Pest Explosion

Being that we just experienced a more mild winter than normal, the expectation is a boom in pest activity sooner rather than later. In fact, calls about wasps, hornets, mosquitoes, and more started as early as March. Homeowners should pay special attention to the pest movement in and around their home such as spiders, ants, wasps and crickets.
