Milford Cockroach Control

Cockroaches have been around longer than most creatures currently on earth. Cockroach fossils date back to before the age of dinosaurs. These little insects can reside in sewers, trash receptacles, or just about any void throughout a structure with the right conditions and a food supply. Depending on their nesting site and what lies between that site and their food source, they can carry diseases on them and transport them to your environment. Milford cockroach control can be particularly difficult as they can survive long periods of time without food and water.

Hunting for Roach Nesting Sites

Cockroaches can nest nearly anywhere in your house or business including (but not limited to) refrigerators, cabinets, crawl spaces, and pretty much anywhere dark and moist. Since roaches don’t like to get squished, they spend a lot of their time foraging during the night. Since you probably don’t want to start off your Milford roach control endeavors at 2am with night vision goggles, the use of glue boards can serve as monitor stations.

What do Cockroaches like to Eat?

Cockroaches are omnivores which means they eat organic matter of animals and plants. There critters especially like starches, meats, and sweets however there will pretty much eat anything! Cockroaches can survive over a month without food and about 2 weeks without water! This means that phase 1 of Milford Cockroach control needs to include food source reduction and elimination. Keeping the food source out of the equation can be a wonderful preventive element.

Milford’s Most Inquired About Roaches

German Cockroaches

This breed of cockroach is smaller in size ranging between ½ – ⅔ inches long. They are brown to tan in color and have two parallel black stripes on their pronotum. Though they have wings this roach cannot fly. If they are flying, you have their look-alike roach to deal with – the Asian roach.

German cockroaches do not care much for the colder weather and are hardly going to venture out during a nor’easter. In fact, this cockroach has developed to spend the entirety of its life indoors. They will show up anywhere with food and warmth like homes, restaurants, food processing facilities, and even hospitals! Milford roach control for German roaches needs to be at least as relentless as these pests are at sticking around.

Oriental Cockroaches

These cockroaches are larger than the German roach described above. They can grow to be about 1 inch long! These pests are a shiny brown color and both the males and females have wings however they cannot fly either.

These cockroaches are most often found around dark places with a lot of moisture coining the nickname “waterbug”. Typically these critters are found in damp basements, bathrooms, and under and around sink fixtures.

American Cockroaches

This is one of the larger species of cockroaches. They are a reddish-brown color with a yellowish section behind their head and can grow to be over 2 inches long! American cockroaches like other types have a low tolerance for cold so they seek out warmth and shelter. They are typically found in basements, crawl spaces, and even sewers!

Tools in the Milford Cockroach Control Kit

Identify Population Centers

The best place to start is to examine your home for signs of their presence. You can do this by using a flashlight looking in dark damp spots like under your sink, behind the refrigerator, and damp dark spots in your basement. You can also use glue boards as monitoring stations to catch them as they scurry between walls and appliances.

Environmental Adjustments

Changing the environment to be less conducive to their presence is a key portion of Milford cockroach control. This can include:

  • Eliminating moisture sources
  • Reducing humidity
  • Temperature reduction
  • Food source elimination
  • Sanitation & degreasing

Ways to Kill Them

Once you have a good handle on the focal points and environmental adjustments, you are ready to wage ware on them. You can use:

  • Baits
  • Insect growth regulators
  • Sprays
  • Dusts
  • Smashing mechanisms (shoes, fly swatters, books, etc.)
  • Aerosols

The big thing with Milford roach control is to not be overly reliant on pesticides. These should only play a specific part in the control process and should not be considered independent of other efforts.

Call for Backup (or someone to take the lead)

Controlling cockroaches is not typically considered an easy task. Their longevity alone indicates such. They also tend to nest in places that are hard to reach. Oftentimes, the best way to deal with roaches is to call a professional who has the tools and knows the process. Oftentimes, our Milford cockroach control experts can get the best solution in place faster than people can learn about it.
