Verona Cockroach Control

Cockroaches are the critters that are best known for their ability to survive a nuclear apocalypse. These little insects like to live in sewers and can carry pathogens into homes and businesses. Treating them can be challenging because of their resistance to many types of control efforts. Cockroaches can nest nearly anywhere in your house including but not limited to refrigerators and other appliances, cabinets, crawl spaces, and pretty much anywhere dark and sufficiently moist. While we aren’t likely to see them hanging out on Verona beach, they have plenty of their own hangouts throughout Verona which necessitates Verona cockroach control efforts.

Cockroach Consumption

While there are plenty of cultures that consume cockroaches, we in Verona are more concerned with what these unwanted roaches want to eat. Cockroaches are omnivorous meaning that can and will eat just about anything. They particularly like starches, sugars, and meats. Some of the odd things they will find delicious include grease spots, wallpaper, and glue.

Cockroaches are known for their tenacity, and they can even survive over 2 weeks without food and water. This means that tight controls on roach food sources are key elements of Verona cockroach control.

Verona’s Cockroach Lineup

There are many cockroaches that do not pose any threat to structural invasion, so when it comes to roaches that want to join us inside, the list is relatively short.

German Cockroaches

The German roaches are on the smaller side being a less than an inch in size. Mostly they are a light tan and translucent color with black or dark brown markings on their pronotum. They have wings but do not fly. (If you see a German cockroach that is flying, it is probably an Asian cockroach, but they aren’t nearly as common in Verona cockroach control needs).

German roaches are typically found in places with consistent food sources such as restaurants and food storage facilities. That being said, certain cooking styles that include regular use of oils will create ideal living conditions for these roaches in residences as well. These roaches typically do not care too much for cooler temperatures, so there are multiple ways to make the habitat uninviting for them in the Verona cockroach control plan.

Oriental Cockroaches

These roaches are a medium sized breed that is around one inch in length. They are typically a darker brown to black in color and have a ribbed body.

Oriental cockroaches are nicknamed the “water bug” as they have a particular affinity for water. You can find these anywhere near water fixtures like sinks, toilets, water heaters, and even if you have a damp area in your basement.

American Cockroaches

American roaches are one of the largest types of roaches here in Verona (rivaled by the Australian cockroach that likes to hang out in potting soil or rich soil outdoors). They can grow to be over two inches long. They typically have a brown to reddish brown body with yellow markings on their thorax and legs.

These roaches typically have a hard time in our harsh cold winters here in Verona and seek out homes for shelter. They typically like to nest in dark quiet places like crawl spaces and underneath sinks.

The Nuts and Bolts of Verona Cockroach Control

Identify Habitable Areas

The best place to start is to examine your home or business for areas that are conducive to cockroach living. You can use a flashlight to look in dark damp places like underneath a sink, behind a toilet, cupboards, crawlspace, and anywhere dark and damp. Look for ootheca, droppings, or molted exoskeletons.

Clean, Degrease, and Bait

Typically the best approach for Verona cockroach control is to use a bait source near the habitable area(s). Cockroaches eat nearly anything with even vague nutritional value, so ensure that all these areas are free of food debris and grease to increase the effectiveness of the bait.

Call For Backup

Cockroaches are difficult to treat because of the nature of their rapid reproduction, ability to grow populations unnoticed, and resistance to many control measures. The good news is Verona cockroach control doesn’t have to include your own efforts. The roach experts at Rove Pest Control have solutions ready to be put in place for you.
