Run

“A long stretch of road will teach you more about yourself than a hundred years of quiet introspection.” – Patrick Rothfus

Picture of a long road in TN supporting the quote from Patrick Rothfus and tying it to past experiences.

When was the last time you did something to challenge yourself? What would it be like to be stripped of all your comforts and connections?

How would you navigate days full of uncertainty and unknown? Who would you meet along the way and what impact would you have on each other?

Where do you begin, eat, drink, sleep, and end?

Why do you do this…or anything? Join Rob on his annual cross state journey to find answers to these questions and many others along the way.

Current Journey

The next Journey will begin in Adrian, Oregon and travel around 350 miles to Grouse Creek, UT.

Adrian is a great name for a shout out start for those that grew up in the Rocky film series era. It also has historical significance as being a longer alternate route for the Oregon Trail. I remember feeling special participating in trail rides along this historic route growing up. Most importantly, about 18% of the families in Adrian live below the poverty line. Perhaps I will find some folks I can help while there.

For in route adventures:

  • climbing will occur toward the beginning either at Swan Falls, Reynolds’s Creek, or the black cliffs
  • the adventure will be timed to compete in the Spudman Triathlon just outside my hometown
  • climbing will be toward the end at the marvelous City of Rocks

Grouse Creek is home to a little gas station and convenient store named Gone Country. It seemed a fitting end to the journey for a misfit in his country roots growing up who never quite could say he had gone country. It doubles in meaning as the place where I will be gone from this country and another year’s journey. A creative lunch will be put together for those that would like to join me at the finish line.
