Wildlife Control: Oakland County

While many Oakland County residents experience bugs and rodents in their homes, some people experience bigger and more dangerous animals throughout their property. Raccoons, possums, squirrels, skunks, bats, and coyotes can enter the home and cause structural damage and other chaos.

Animals may seek shelter in various parts of your home, such as basements, attics, and garages. They often seek homes that have an abundance of garbage, pet food, or birdseed, all of which they will feed on.

If you notice wildlife inhabitants, you need to get it under control as quickly as possible. These critters can cause a lot of damage to a home and even make it unsafe for yourself and your family. They can damage electrical wiring and insulation, causing fires inside your home. They can cause structural damage to homes by chewing on wood. Animals can also spread diseases through their urine, feces, saliva, and dander. Bird flu, salmonella, Lyme disease, and rabies are common diseases that wildlife can spread to humans. These creatures can also cause allergic reactions and asthma, particularly in children.

For every pest issue, Rove Pest Control is the solution. Whether you have wildlife, insects, rodents, reptiles, or other creatures inhabiting your home, count on our team to present a viable solution to pests with minimal damage.

Tips for Keeping Wildlife Out of Your Home

Your best defense is to keep critters out of your home in the first place. Here are some tips to keep wildlife out of your home:

  • Find out how the animals are getting into your home. Look around the outside of the home for holes that wildlife may be entering. Block these entrances with wire mesh, sheet metal, and other durable materials. Seal smaller cracks and openings with caulk.
  • Keep trash and food secure. Wildlife are attracted to all types of food and garbage, including pet food and bird seed. Keep all human food properly stored in bins with secure lids. Same for pet food and bird seed — it’s best to get the food out of the original bags and store them securely. You may need to use ropes or bungee cords to secure them.
  • Get rid of standing water. Bird baths and bowls of water for your pets that are left outside attract wild animals that may be thirsty. Get rid of standing water and you’ll reduce the possibility of attracting these critters.
  • Put up a fence. A sturdy fence will keep pests out. Build one that’s buried underground and at least 5 feet above ground will keep animals from burrowing under and jumping over.
