When we look at Witches Hat Depot Museum and McHattle Park, we should notice some conical similarities. We human folk build beneficial hats for our structures that protect the innards from being damaged by the elements – especially the rain and snow. We aren’t the only South Lyon residents that have seen the value of these overhanging elements. Wasps love them too. As long as we are maintaining our homes and businesses with rooflines, we are going to have to have South Lyon wasp control measures in place.

The Nest

Not all wasps are riding our construction coat tails. Some wasps like bald faced hornets build their nests into bushes and trees from protection. Some species of yellow jackets take over rodent or snake dens to get the protection they need. Regardless of whether they are taking advantage of plant life or wildlife, they aren’t much different from the paper wasps and yellow jackets that use our homes and businesses. The first step in South Lyon wasp control is figuring out which type of nest to look for and locate it.

The Food

The next focal point for South Lyon wasp control is food. Even though we tend to only think about how sharp the south end of a wasp is, thinking about what they eat helps immensely. Wasps are predatory. Some paralyze their prey to build into the nest for their young. Others exchange chunks of insects and arachnids with the brood for sweet excretions. Regardless of the species-to-species nuances, it is all about predation. By reducing the general number of other pests around our homes and businesses, we can reduce the wasp population.

Nest Removal

Wasps build their nests out of pulp they create from fibrous plants such as wood. This may sound like our process for creating paper which is exactly where we got the inspiration! Because their homes are made of paper, they would be like one of the 3 little pigs anytime a big bad rain wolf hit their home. By protecting their nests with overhangs or voids, they construct their nests rapidly. South Lyon wasp control should include removing the nest to avoid the developing brood from rebuilding or expanding the current population.

Care and protection should be included in these efforts. Wasp stings are painful, and some people have severe reactions to them. Additionally, in some cases, the nest may be so well protected that removal is not feasible. In these cases, additional follow up measures should be put in place to ensure the situation of the baby wasps is fully resolved.
