As you return back from Tanner Lake Park, you think about just how many ankle biters were making the rounds doing their business. Whether you are the proud owner of an ankle biter dog of your own or prefer the large lab editions, there is a secondary ankle biter that will attack any dog breed and even YOUR ankles. These nasty fleas are the dread of any pet owner and they can be a bear to get rid of.
But I Don’t Have A Dog…
Fleas aren’t just a plague of dog or cat owners. Fleas can hitch rides into homes on the plethora of wildlife that fills the Oakdale woods. Rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, and even mice and voles can be flea ridden and as they make their way into your yard (and worse yet – your home!), they may deposit enough fleas to set up shop in your carpet.
Start With The Source
You don’t have to suffer indefinitely from these blood-sucking parasites. If you know where the fleas originated such as a pet that started with them, verify that the fleas are found on that pet. Start with having that pet treated with a flea and tick shampoo or a pet dip that can be done through your veterinarian. After that, turn to the vacuum and focus efforts on areas where the pets rest or bed down as well as carpeting. Vacuuming will remove eggs and other life stages of the flea. Dispose of the bag after vacuuming.
