The Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs most well known as simply “stink bugs” are starting to make their appearance this time of year, so here are a few ways how to get rid of stink bugs.
As the seasons change stink bugs become more prevalent and how to get rid of them becomes more of a pressing issue
Now the good thing about conifer bugs is that they don’t really pose a threat to humans. They don’t bite, sting, damage property, carry diseases for humans or pets, but they are voracious eaters that pose threats to various crops. Also, if they are killed they emit a potent stench. This is where stink bugs get their name.
Stink bugs are more of an annoyance than anything else, and if your home has entry points they can come in great numbers. As the seasons change and it becomes colder, these pests, among many others, tend to try and seek shelter inside your home. Stink bugs are also known to bask in the sunlight and warmth along the southern side of homes and then move indoors as night approaches.
How to get rid of stink bugs: Exclusion is your friend
Most often stink bugs feed off of a variety of plants including fruits, vegetables and ornamentals. Since a lot of these plants are found within neighborhoods or whiten flying distance of them, it makes sense that the first signs of cold would send them toward the homes. The good news is that stink bugs don’t breed or feed inside your home, unfortunately they just end up there as the season changes to avoid the cold.
Sealing the cracks and crevices around your home or business is key for getting rid of stink bugs, however this is easier said than done and you will need to seal all gaps from the foundation to the roof. You should focus your efforts on the south and west sides of your home since they typically get the most sunlight.
Why hire a pest control service to get rid of conifer bugs?
Exclusion can be a long and tedious process and if done improperly it won’t prevent pests from getting in your home. Having a pest control service come and set up a better job of exclusion can be a great time saver and produce far better results. Also in the case that exclusion isn’t 100% effective, a pest control service will have the tools and products to properly eliminate any stink bugs that do happen to make it into your home.
