Wixom Ant Control

Preferred expert by 760 WJR’s Inside Outside Guys

Here in Wixom, we have some of the best dog parks. It is home to all sorts of dogs who love to play out in the fields and have a good time. It is also a great place to meet interesting people. We share those parks with each other, but also certain ant species. Unfortunately, ants don’t just stay in the dog parks. Their populations spread everywhere – including our homes and businesses. Wixom ant control keeps them where we are fine with seeing them (in the wild).

What Attracts Ants?

Ants are sneaky and can enter our homes and businesses through the smallest of openings. Ants can be a nuisance and some can even bite. They typically aren’t there to torment us physically though. They usually enter strictures to find food. Forgotten food spills or messes will attract ants inside. Most ants can actually smell food that isn’t securely stored in a container or inside a fridge from quite a distance away. Ants also produce pheromone trails. Once they find a good source of food, ants will leave these trails for other ants to find and help bring food back to the colony.

How to Prevent Ants

There are some simple steps to make sure ants do not come into our businesses and homes. One important step is to make sure you keep our homes free of food sources. Any unattended:

  • Proteins
  • Carbohydrates & sugars
  • Oils & fats

can lead to an ant feeding. Other steps that are helpful in Wixom ant control include:

  • Storing foods in sealed containers
  • Seal off any cracks or entrances ants may use to get inside
  • Keep bushes, trees, and other plants trimmed away from the structure
  • Another way to make sure ants don’t get into our homes is to use a certified pest control company.

What are Common Ants in Wixom?

One of the most common ants we get asked about in Wixom is the carpenter ant. Carpenter ants like to nest inside of houses or any other place where they can find some soft wood to build their galleries. They are 3.4 to 13 mm long in size and are usually black in color, but may be red and black as well.

Another common ant is the pavement ant. Pavement ants are usually light brown to black in color and are about 2.5 to 3 mm long in size. Pavement ants can be a nuisance, especially during the summer months. Pavement ants may sting if provoked but are usually very docile and unlikely to sting a person. Other ants common to Wixom ant control may include:

  • Pharaoh ants
  • Odorous house ant
  • Little black ants (this highly technical name always amuses me)
  • Acrobat ants
  • Big headed ant
  • Thief ant

The Ant Trail

Changes in construction, landscaping, weather, etc. will bring changes to ant populations. As foundations settle cracks and crevices develop in the foundation. This is how ants usually get into the home, but there are other entry points as well. Routine inspections will help identify the situations conducive to ants. Staying ahead of ants involves utilizing the right tools for the corresponding situation and species.

Reach out to a pest specialist to get your custom plan in place so you don’t have to worry about sharing your home with ants (or other pests). Peace of mind that your house isn’t a pavement or carpenter ant haven is worth it.
