While Japanese Beetles do have robust chewing mouthparts for munching on leaves, they do not bite people. They are safe to be picked up by hand and removed. In fact, they are even safe for people to eat if you would like to take advantage of the free snack accumulating in your yard. They are not carriers of disease that will affect humans.
